Test Principle:
γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a functional non-protein amino acid that naturally exists in animals, plants and microorganisms. GABA plays the role of inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous system of animals, and also has the role of adjuvant therapy in lowering blood pressure, improving brain function, and enhancing liver and kidney function. GABA in plants mainly plays a role in resisting stress such as low temperature, drought and pests, inducing ethylene synthesis, and regulating growth and development.

Using the Berthelot method, GABA reacts with hypochlorite and phenols to form a blue-green substance with a characteristic absorption peak at 640 nm. By detecting the absorbance at 640 nm, the GABA content of the sample can be calculated.
