Test Principle:
Maltase, also known as α-glucosidase (hereafter referred to as α-GC, EC 3.2.1.20) is widely present in animals, plants, microorganisms, and cultured cells, catalyzing the hydrolysis of α-glycosidic bonds between aryl or aliphatic groups and sugar to produce glucose. α-glucosidase inhibitors are generally used to treat type 2 diabetes, primarily by inhibiting the activity of α-glucosidase in the small intestinal epithelial cells, slowing down the breakdown rate of carbohydrates, thereby reducing the rise in postprandial blood glucose levels.
α-GC decomposes p-nitrophenyl-α-D-glucopyranoside to produce p-nitrophenol, which has a maximum absorption peak at 400 nm. This kit calculates the inhibitory activity of α-GC inhibitors by measuring the rate of increase in absorbance.
