Test Principle:Calcein AM ist eine nicht fluoreszierende, hydrophobe Verbindung, die leicht in intakte, lebende Zellen eindringt. Die Hydrolyse von Calcein AM durch intrazelluläre Esterasen erzeugt Calcein, eine hydrophile, stark fluoreszierende Verbindung, die im Zellzytoplasma gut erhalten bleibt. Tote Zellen können jedoch nicht mit fluoreszierendem Calcein markiert werden.
