Test Principle:
Soil organic carbon (SOC) ; SOC is a combination of humus, animal and plant residues and microbial bodies formed by microbial action. It is an extremely important part of soil and is closely related to soil fertility. Soil organic matter (SOM) refers to the organic matter containing carbon in the soil. It is an important factor to judge the quality of the soil. Its content plays an important role in agricultural production activities and ecological environment detection. By measuring the content of organic matter in soil, we can understand the physical and chemical properties of soil, and provide data support for soil environmental monitoring, effective utilization and soil improvement.

Under heating conditions, the organic carbon in soil samples is oxidized by excessive potassium dichromate-sulfuric acid solution, and the hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) in potassium dichromate was reduced to trivalent chromium (Cr3+). The content was proportional to the content of organic carbon in the sample, and the absorbance was measured at the wavelength of 585 nm. The organic carbon content was calculated according to the content of trivalent chromium (Cr3+). Then the organic matter content is calculated according to the relevant formula.
