Test Principle:
Potassium maintains the normal osmotic pressure and acid-base balance of the body, participates in glucose and protein metabolism, and ensures the normal function of neuromuscular. When serum potassium is higher than 5.5mmol / L, it is called hyperkalemia. Hyperkalemia can increase the stress of nerves and muscles, reduce the stress of myocardium, and lead to bradycardia. When serum potassium exceeds 10mmol / L, ventricular fibrillation can occur, and even the heart stops during diastole. When serum potassium is lower than 3.5 mmol / L, it is called hypokalemia. Hypokalemia can cause muscle weakness or even muscle flaccid paralysis, increase myocardial stress, tachycardia, arrhythmia and even arrest during systole. Therefore, serum potassium is a commonly used biochemical indicator.
Potassium ion in serum reacts with sodium tetraphenylborate to form potassium tetraphenylborate insoluble in water, and the turbidity produced is proportional to the concentration of potassium ion in a certain range. Serum potassium content was determined by measuring its turbidity. In order to avoid potassium ion pollution, it is recommended to use deionized water instead of distilled water throughout the experiment.
