Test Principle:Glutathione peroxidase ( GSH-Px or GPX, EC.1.11.1.9 ) is an important peroxidase widely present in the body. GPX can be divided into two categories according to the difference of enzyme active centers, one with selenocysteine as the active center and the other with cysteine as the active center. The former exists in most organisms. GPX can remove hydrogen peroxide and lipid peroxide produced in organisms, and reduce the toxic effects of oxidation products on the body. It is an important part of the antioxidant system in organisms. This kit detects GPX activity with selenocysteine as the active center. GPX catalyzes the oxidation of GSH by organic peroxides to produce GSSG. GSH can react with DTNB to form a compound with a characteristic absorption peak at 412 nm. The decrease of absorbance at 412 nm can reflect the activity of GPX.
