Target Synonym:

Test Principle:3-Hydroxy-3-Methyl Glutaryl Coenzyme A Reductase (HMGR;EC: 1.1.1.34),is a glycoprotein composed of 887 amino acid residues found in the endoplasmic reticulum of the liver, intestines, and other tissues. It is a rate-limiting enzyme in the synthesis of cholesterol in hepatocytes, catalyzing the formation of mevalonic acid, and inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase can hinder cholesterol synthesis. HMG-CoA consumes 2 molecules of NADPH to produce 3-methyl-3,5-dihydrolevalonic acid (mevalonic acid) and 2 molecules of NADP catalyzed by HMG-CoA, and the activity of HMGR enzyme is determined by measuring the change of absorbance value at 340nm.
