Product Description

L-Serine is a non-essential amino acid for humans, as the body can synthesize it endogenously. L-Serine is an important raw material for the synthesis of phosphatidylserine and other cell membrane phospholipids, playing a crucial role in maintaining cell membrane structure and signal transduction. L-Serine is also involved in one-carbon unit metabolism, providing one-carbon groups for nucleotide synthesis and the methionine cycle.

L-Serine lacks ultraviolet (UV) absorption groups and strong fluorescent properties, and thus cannot be directly determined by conventional detectors. This kit employs a pre-column derivatization method: under weakly alkaline conditions, OPA (o-phthalaldehyde) and 3-MPA (3-mercaptopropionic acid) specifically react with the amino group of L-Serine to form fluorescent derivatives. Upon excitation with ultraviolet light, these derivatives emit fluorescence at a longer wavelength than the excitation light. The fluorescence intensity is proportional to the L-Serine concentration with a high response, making this method suitable for automated batch analysis by HPLC. This kit is specifically designed for the rapid and efficient extraction and quantification of L-Serine in plant samples.

Instruments and Reagents Required for the Assay

High-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) equipped with a C18 column (4.6 × 250 mm, water tolerance ≥95%) and a fluorescence detector (FLD); ultrasonic cleaner; vortex mixer; electronic balance; low-temperature high-speed centrifuge (4°C, 10,000 r/min); mortar/homogenizer; adjustable pipettes; syringe; organic membrane filter; aqueous membrane filter; chromatographic-grade methanol, ethanol, and acetonitrile, etc.
